Burchard (Burt) V. Martin, Sr. (1933-2014) was the senior partner of the firm until his death in 2014. He was in that role for over 30 years. Burt practiced primarily in the areas of Medical Malpractice, Insurance Litigation, Products Liability and Construction Litigation.

Burt had over 40 years experience in insurance defense litigation, having
tried over 500 cases in his career. He had extensive experience in all areas of
personal injury and professional negligence matters, as well as
insurance coverage cases.

Burt was a graduate of Villanova University School of Law in 1958, where he was a member of the Law Review, finishing second in his class. Burt began his career with the firm immediately thereafter, and was admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey and the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey and U.S. Court of
Appeals, Third Circuit in 1960. He was admitted to the Bar of the United
States Supreme Court in 1976.

Burt held the highest rating available from Martindale-Hubbell, Peer Review
Rating "AV". This rating indicates that Burt was rated very high to
preeminent by his peers for performance, and given the General Ethics
Standard rating of very high.

Burt was recognized for his achievements as a litigator. He was listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Attorneys. He was listed in “The Best Lawyers in America” from 1983 until 2014. Burt was also selected to be a Fellow in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers (State Chairman, 1982 and 1983), whose members consist of less than 1% of trial lawyers through the country. He received the Honorable Peter J. Devine award by the Camden County Bar Association for lifetime achievement. He received the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey Award for Distinguished Service to the Cause of Justice in 1987. Burt was a Lecturer at seminars in trial advocacy, and participated in vignettes on medical malpractice, personal injury and wrongful death actions for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Education, required training for New Jersey licensed attorneys. He also lectured at the Annual Meetings for the Camden County and New Jersey Bar Association.

In 2004, South Jersey Magazine named him one of 39 "Awesome Attorneys" in South Jersey. Three years later, Burt was named as one of the "New York Areas Best Attorneys" by New York Monthly Magazine. The 2009 edition of Super Lawyers Magazine had him listed as an "Outstanding Lawyer" from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Burt was a member Camden County, New Jersey State and American Bar
Associations. He was also is a member of the the International Association
of Defense Counsel, the New Jersey Defense Association, the American
Board of Trial Advocates and American College of Trial Lawyers.

Burt was a lifetime member of the Board of Consultors of Villanova University
School of Law.
